Life Shield

Icon Buff 1020031.png Life Shield is variation of the regular Shield that acts more like a second HP bar.

  • Life Shields use a direct HP value instead of a percentage. Whenever a Life Shield is re-casted while it is still active, its HP value will be "healed" up to a maximum based on a percentage of the caster's maximum HP. When active, the Life Shield will display as an orange bar below the adventurer's HP bar.
    • For example, if a Life Shield has 50% of the caster's HP, the caster's Life Shield cap is 70% HP, and then the caster adds 60% HP to the shield, the shield will have its HP value increased to 70% of the caster's HP (instead of simply replacing the 50% with 60%).
  • Only one Life Shield may be active at a time. If a second is applied from a different source, the one with the highest max value wins.
    • For example, if 100003 01 r04.png Ranzal casts Life Shield and then 110059 01 r05.png Grace casts Life Shield, 110059 01 r05.png Grace's Life Shield will take priority since its cap HP is higher than that of 100003 01 r04.png Ranzal's.
  • If a stronger Life Shield is active and then a weaker Life Shield is cast, the weaker shield will "heal" the stronger shield by increasing its HP value. For example, if 110059 01 r05.png Grace's Life Shield is active and then 100003 01 r04.png Ranzal casts his weaker Life Shield, he will add HP to the Life Shield. Note that the stronger Life Shield's cap is still enforced, and cannot be surpassed this way.
  • If a damaging attack that would have dealt an affliction is fully nullified by the Life Shield, the affliction will be nullified as well.
  • If a non-damaging attack deals an affliction (for example: Volk's bombs when they are manually defused), the Life Shield will NOT nullify that affliction.
    • If the affliction is self-inflicted in the case of 110255 01 r04.png Celliera, the Life Shield will NOT nullify that affliction, either.
  • The Life Shield CANNOT nullify debuffs such as Defense Down or Enervation. Even if the attack that dealt these is completely nullified, the debuff will still be applied anyway.
  • If more damage is taken than the Life Shield can withstand, the Life Shield will nullify as much damage as it can before the adventurer takes damage.
    • For example: taking a 1,001-damage hit while having a Life Shield that can withstand 1,000 damage will cause the adventurer to receive 1 damage.
    • Since the adventurer still ultimately takes damage, afflictions will not be nullified in this situation.

Self-inflicted damage interactions:

  • Skills that directly consume HP (such as 110333 01 r05.png Veronica's Icon Skill 040.png GespenstLv. 1: Deals 3 hits of 269% and 1 hit of 337% shadow damage to the target and nearby enemies. Damage will be increased as the user's HP decreases, up to 3 hits of 605.25% and 1 hit of 758.25% shadow damage total. [3291 SP]

Lv. 2: Deals 3 hits of 299% and 1 hit of 373% shadow damage to the target and nearby enemies. Damage will be increased as the user's HP decreases, up to 3 hits of 672.75% and 1 hit of 839.25% shadow damage total. [3291 SP]

Lv. 3: Deals 3 hits of 332% and 1 hit of 415% shadow damage to the target and nearby enemies. Damage will be increased as the user's HP decreases, up to 3 hits of 747% and 1 hit of 933.75% shadow damage total. [3291 SP]

Lv. 4: Deals 3 hits of 597% and 1 hit of 686% shadow damage to the target and nearby enemies. Poisoned foes take 3 hits of 716.4% and 1 hit of 823.2% shadow damage instead. The lower the user's HP, the more damage this skill deals. This increase caps at 3 hits of 895.5% and 1 hit of 1029% shadow damage. For poisoned foes the cap is instead 3 hits of 1074.6% and 1 hit of 1234.8% shadow damage.

If the user's HP is above or equal to 50% of max HP, consumes 10% of max HP to fill this skill's skill gauge by 20%. [3291 SP]
or 110306 01 r05.png Bellina's Icon Skill 032.png Renegade GambitLv. 1: Fills 30% of the user's dragondrive gauge. If the user's HP is above 30% of max HP, reduces their HP to 30% of max HP and fills the dragondrive gauge by UTP equal to the amount of HP that was lost. If this skill is used during dragondrive, a variant called Renegade Shadowblaze will be used instead.

If the user's HP is above 30% of max HP, Renegade Shadowblaze reduces their HP to 30% of max HP and deals 1 hit of 1091% shadow damage to enemies directly ahead. Damage will be increased as the user's HP decreases, up to 1 hit of 3273% shadow damage. Using Renegade Shadowblaze will consume all of the user's dragondrive gauge. [7338 SP]

Lv. 2: Fills 40% of the user's dragondrive gauge. If the user's HP is above 30% of max HP, reduces their HP to 30% of max HP and fills the dragondrive gauge by UTP equal to the amount of HP that was lost. If this skill is used during dragondrive, a variant called Renegade Shadowblaze will be used instead.

If the user's HP is above 30% of max HP, Renegade Shadowblaze reduces their HP to 30% of max HP and deals 1 hit of 1212% shadow damage to enemies directly ahead. Damage will be increased as the user's HP decreases, up to 1 hit of 3636% shadow damage. Using Renegade Shadowblaze will consume all of the user's dragondrive gauge. [7338 SP]
) will ignore the Life Shield and consume HP normally.
  • 110342 01 r05.png Chelsea's "Obsession" effect, which deals damage to herself every time she attacks or uses a skill, ignores the Life Shield and consumes HP normally.
  • 110262 01 r04.png Aldred's "Loathsome Power" and 100032 01 r04.png Laxi's "Limiters Released", both of which automatically consume HP over time, will deal damage to the Life Shield.

If a Shield, Divergent Shield, and/or Life Shield are active simultaneously, they will be consumed with the following order of priority:

1. Life Shield

2. Normal Shield

3. Divergent Shield

  • If the Life Shield loses all of its HP, the remaining damage will "bleed through" onto the other shields.
    • Using the previous example, if an adventurer has a Life Shield that can withstand 1,000 damage, and also has a regular shield, taking less than 1,000 damage will decrease the Life Shield's HP but will not affect the regular shield. Taking 1,001 damage instead will cause the remaining 1 damage to trigger the regular shield, consuming it.
  • If an attack deals more damage than the regular shield can withstand, but less than the divergent shield can withstand, then the regular shield fails and the divergent shield is consumed at the same time.
